10th Annual 'Island Air Races'
22nd & 24th September 2006

It will not be long before the clocks change, the nights draw in and winter will be upon us. Many of you may well be thinking of where to go for that final outing of the year. Perhaps what is happening on Alderney might just be that ‘something different’ that will motivate your thoughts into actions.

The Royal Aero Club Records, Racing and Rally Association are organising The Tenth Anniversary ‘Island Air Races’, due to take place over the weekend of the 23rd & 24th September. These races will determine not only the winner of the 2006 British Air Racing Championship but the European Trophy winner as well.

As the organisers of what was once the largest Channel Island aviation event, the Alderney Flying Club is proud to be able to host both participants and supporters.

The outline programme is that practice will take place between (all local time) 11.30 -13.00 on Saturday, with the first race due to be flown between 14.30 and 16.00. Sunday will see racing between 11.30 and 13.00, followed by the prize presentations. Most of the racing fraternity will be arriving on the Friday and with various closure times operating on race days it would seem to be a good idea, if supporters did the same.

If you have been to Alderney before, you will already know about our unique brand of hospitality. Although ‘all day food’ will be available in the hangar, due to pending staff shortages at the Belle Vue Hotel, they are unable to organise our usual Saturday evening function. The hotel management hopes that this will only be a ‘one off’ problem and that they will be able to host the event in future years. Knowing well in advance will hopefully give you ample opportunity to make you own eating arrangements for the Saturday evening. For a comprehensive list of where to eat, visit the ‘Pubs and Restaurants’ section of the States of Alderney website www.visitalderney.com.

It’s different, but it is still Alderney. If the idea appeals to you why not print out and complete the attached registration form, add a cheque and send both to me. If you need any further information please telephone me on 01481 822297.

We look forward to seeing you..
